Board Candidates March 2023

Here are the Candidates!

Current Director: Dana Simmons [2019-2022] has been a member of LCWA since 2006 and on the board since 2013. He has been Board President, Board Treasurer, and Board Secretary. As New Member Orientation and Training Coordinator from 2008 to 2010, Dana helped LCWA grow to 400 members. He established the Tech Support Line 800 number. Dana is currently the Eastside New Member and Training Coordinator.

Current Director: Ken Perlow [2019-2022] has been a member of LCWA since 2012. A retired Bell Labs computer engineer and strategic planner from Chicago, Ken is also an old hand at co-ops, co-founding several housing co-ops in Madison, WI, and is the current treasurer of a housing co-op in Cerrillos. Ken strongly feels that LCWA must differentiate itself from garden-variety alternatives like NMSurf and new technologies like Starlink by providing an exemplary service model—a model that recognizes members not simply as customers, but as fellow co-op members. If reelected, Ken says he will be dedicated to keeping LCWA viable in a rapidly changing technology environment.

Current Secretary and Director: Amy McHugh [2021-2022] has been a member of LCWA since she moved to the Santa Fe area from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in October 2017. She is currently the Chief Risk Officer at Del Norte Credit Union and has approximately 25 years of experience in information technology and security fields, including working for the US House of Representatives and the FDIC. Living in an off-grid area far from public utilities, Amy says she appreciates the service that LCWA provides. When not working, Amy spends her time wrangling her dogs, painting and photography, and polishing her ax throwing skills with a league in Albuquerque .

Current Treasurer and Director: Eddie Lewis [2021-2022] became a member of LCWA recently (2020) and is a new member of the board. He has lived in and around Santa Fe since 1971 and retired in 2014 from a career of starting and running small businesses. He started in the seventies as an electrical contractor (Pecos Valley Electric and its companion service company, Electric Aid); then moved a rung up the technology ladder and co-founded a telephone interconnect company (Southwest Telephone Systems), and finally co-founded a software company (Oaisys) specializing in the integration of computer and phone systems.

New Candidate: Julian Winter has been an LCWA member since 2018, first receiving service on a lone pole at his off-grid building site which is now finished, except for the planned geodesic dome greenhouse. He enjoyed/endured/survived a business career initially working in operations at a large corporation before jumping into Internet startups in the ‘90s. After that he consulted for Internet firms before finishing his business life in financial planning. Presently, he’s a screenwriter exploring futuristic subjects, as well as an LCWA volunteer installer.

New Candidate: Brian Boyer has been a member of LCWA since fall of 2021 not long after he and his wife bought a home in Santa Fe. He is retired after working in the investment industry for 25 years, most recently as a investment director for Wespath, the pension board of the United Methodist Church in Illinois, where he had oversight of real estate and private equity funds. He enjoys skiing and golf as well as exploring the SF area through hiking and biking.
