Tip 2: We Can Refer You to Assistance if Needed
If you were assisted by a volunteer installer, LCWA volunteers do not normally program your smart TVs or computers for internet access. So if after the install you need help with connecting various devices to the internet, we will refer you to paid contractors who can help you. Let us know if you need that.
Also, If you were assisted by a volunteer, they will have set up internet access to one Wi-Fi access point in your house. But sometimes one Wi-Fi access point does not cover every area you want covered. If you find you need more Wi-Fi coverage, again, we can refer you to paid people who can expand it as needed.
This is a membership organization, and all members are considered volunteers:
Volunteers manage most operations in LCWA. They do it out of community spirit. Consider volunteering yourself if we send out requests for volunteers.
At a minimum, we hope you will volunteer to maintain your own equipment. Don’t think of yourself as a consumer or customer (who must be attended to for every issue). Rather, if internet issues arise, figure out ways to help yourself and other members. To that end see below.
If later your internet service is interrupted, try these tips (perhaps print this out for later access):
95 percent of internet problems are due to issues within member-owned equipment, so don’t assume LCWA’s network is having issues. Try these steps:
Never Reset your router! That deletes all internet access settings and it will make your router unusable. You will then need to drop off your router to a volunteer for reprogramming.
Rather, pull the wall power from your router for two minutes and then wait about three minutes. This usually fixes issues in the house.
Also reboot the computer or device you are using to access the internet. That often fixes internet access issues on that device.
Make sure there is power being supplied to your router and rooftop radio.
Test other devices in your house. If other devices are accessing internet, get the “bad” device fixed.
If all devices have no internet, and internet has been off for over an hour, then dial our 800 number (800) 536-6149 and listen to our network outage message at option 1— that way you can be sure there is no regional outage.
If no regional outage then the issue is at your house. If you’ve exhausted all self-help tips above, contact LCWA, Study this link for how to contact LCWA. Once you contact us, we have ways to do remote diagnostics on your site that may help you fix site issues.
Keep a spare part’s kit on hand for making repairs to your own site. After you contact us, we may recommend use of some of those spares.
If the tips above don’t pan out, we will send you contact information for technicians who know LCWA well. You can contract them to come onsite and diagnose and fix your home network and equipment.
Again, thank you for joining LCWA and enjoy your membership!
